Establishment of diagnostic techniques for the detection of Maize lethal necrosis Disease (MLND) and related viruses in the central and northern regions of Moçambique.
General objective: Contribute to the development and sustainable breeding of maize by establishing molecular diagnostic techniques for the detection of maize lethal necrosis (MLN) and sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV) and maize chlorotic blotch virus ( MCMV) in Mozambique.
Specific objectives: to establish the molecular diagnostic technique to detect MLN and related viruses; molecularly characterize the circulating viruses; establish a serological test for the diagnosis of MLN and related viruses.
